It is known that you can become a villain or a hero. In the present, Christian Bale has indeed turned villain again for Marvel in Thor: Love and Thunder. The antagonist is strong, and the story is true to the comic book storyline as well. It also reintroduces popular actress, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Taika Waititi’s hilarious wit is apparent. Love and Thunder is a standalone film that does not perform to the standard of Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Thor has been a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade However, his individual films have either hit the bullseye or missed the target entirely. While the story of his origins, Thor (2011) was a decent start, Thor: The Dark World (2013) was an utterly awful film. In the end, Thor: Ragnarok 2017 will surely be on everyone’s list of top five MCU films. There was a lot of anticipation ahead of the release due to return of the Taika Waititi/Hemsworth collaboration.
If Gorr (Bale) and Bale, who is determined to eliminate gods after being disappointed by one, decides to striking New Asgard to steal the Stormbreaker, Thor has to stop the god killer by forming a team with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who has been transformed into Mighty Thor. The film is simple and simple, which is different from previous Marvel films. The performances are favorable. Hemsworth does a fantastic job as the protagonist who is experiencing an emotional crisis in his midlife, however Bale and Portman are the most notable. The title credit sequence in the pre-title credits the extent to which Bale can do. Gorr could be the new Thanos in the MCU. Bale adds a an eerie quality to the role, but there’s nothing else to it.
On the other side, Portman, who makes her return to the Marvel world following her absence from the previous two Thor films, will play the cancer-afflicted ex-girlfriend chosen by Mjolnir. Since Marvel is eager to hand over the roles of Hawkeye and in a few weeks, Hulk, to women characters, I was expecting the Mighty Thor to be a similar mark in the representation checklist. The film tells an emotional story of the astrophysicist who is able to display her biceps in more than one.
Marvel does its own flexing, too, through all the cameos featured in the film. We also get to see the Guardians of the Galaxy cast with Sam Neill and Matt Damon reprise their roles from Thor Ragnarok’s Loki, Odin and Thor for instance. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone can also be seen as Hela and as the director for the Asgardian play. Waititi who, since Ragnarok directed the Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit, works in his most loved genre, this time. There are hilarious scenes like two goats that are loud, Korg’s narration of Thor’s backstory, Thor breaking his legs, Valkyrie being the brand ambassador for Old Spice…
The running gag is that Thor is looking for his Mjolnir but is afraid of Stormbreaker’s jealousy. These gags, however effective, fall at the expense emotions and expose the wafer-thin plot as well. Thor: Love and Thunder covers a wide range of love–ranging from a father-daughter relationship to the complicated love story of lovers who are not together… There’s an analogy between Gorr losing his respect for his god, Rapu, and Thor becoming disillusioned with Zeus (played by Russell Crowe). These are just a few of the ideas however…
As usual, there are numerous Easter eggs or even references to films such as Interstellar as well as Harry Potter. The camera shows the god of death, Falligar, taken straight out of comics. We can see Hemsworth in the classic Thor costumes that comic book readers will recognize. When he is fighting Zeus, Thor reveals his true colors. We also see a tattoo reading ‘RIP Loki and the costume of the trickster on the back of our Viking. The terrible Necrosword is revealed, and it’s fascinating how the weapons are revealed to be able to control people, given the manner in which Stormbreaker and Mjolnir appear to possess their own minds.
This has been seen with the ten rings of Shang Chi, the magical bangle in Ms Marvel, and the Ebony Blade in the post-credits scene in Eternals. After the show that Marvel recently aired, Moonknight, the line, “Gods will use you but not allow you to be empowered” is extremely relatable. There’s also a little bit about Valkyrie losing her best friend in battle and Korg falling in love with another Kronan man.
We are reminded of Ragnarok’s colors in the initial part, but much of the second part is set in the dark world of black and white. It must be said though that the action scenes that are monochrome are quite satisfying.
Hemsworth as Thor will be here for a long time however, which is a relief to MCU people who’ve seen the first Avengers either give up their lives or hang their boots.
